Presidency Message
In such difficult economic times it can sometimes lead us to feel like we are surrounded in hardship. We can sometimes lose focus and find ourselves seeing more of what we don't have rather than all that we are blessed with. This month it seems particularly appropriate to refocus our thoughts on being thankful. In his talk "Attitude of Gratitude," President Monson said, "We can lift ourselves, and others as well, when we refuse to remain in the realm of negative thoughts and cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude." With a heart full of gratitude we find reasons to not only give thanks daily, but also to look for ways to serve and help others to feel this same way. Serving others is the best way to show our gratitude to our Heavenly Father. Let us start our month of Thanksgiving... giving thanks to our Father in Heaven and giving service to those around us! Yes...it is a challenge!!! Gird up your loins sisters and do it with me!

November is Noodle Month!
Did you know that a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) needs to store about 100 lbs. of noodles for a one year supply? Cannery prices spaghetti (16.25/25 lbs.) .65 cents a pound. Macaroni (13.45/20 lbs.) .67 cents a pound. Do you have enough?
Make the Cannery a priority this month!

October is Oat Month!
Practical Preparedness Pointers

Did you know that a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) needs to store 75 lbs. of oats for a one year supply? Did you know that to purchase 75 lbs. of oats from the church Cannery only costs you $22.50? It would cost you a lot more to take that same family to the movies ONE TIME than provide an entire YEAR worth of oats for your family! Make the cannery a priority this month!

Cannery Date: Wednesday, October 28th from 11-1

October Presidency Message

PRESIDENCY’S MESSAGE

“Learning to endure times of disappointment, suffering, and sorrow is part of on the job training. These experiences while often difficult to bear at the time, are precisely the kind of experiences that stretch our understanding, build our character, and increase our compassion for others.”
Joseph B. Wirthlin

It is in these times that we grow the most. I bear testimony that God lives. He has set a path for each of us to polish and perfect us. I testify that the Savior lives. His atonement makes it possible for us to be purified as we learn to keep the commandments, big or small. I know from my own experience that He can and will give us strength to rise above our trials.

PRESIDENCY MESSAGE

“I am convinced that distractions and discouragement are some of Satan’s most effective tools. He finds ways to help us make excuses about why we can’t do this or that. He gets us involved in wasting our time and resources in things that lead us away from improving our lives and developing our talents. He blurs our focus by diverting our attention. This can happen to the very best of you.” Donald L. Staheli, Ensign, Feb 2009.

We must stay attentive to the purpose of our life on earth. It is so easy to get distracted yet it is critical to our salvation that we remain focused. Here are three specific ideas to help us remain focused.

• Set aside a quiet moment in your day, every day, for personal study and revelation.
• Pray for the Spirit to get you back on track when you start to drift or get discouraged.
• Listen when the Prophet speaks: attend the Relief Society Broadcast on September 26th.

Our allotment of time here on earth is short, let us strive to make the most of it!

Presidency Message

“But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.” Moroni 7:47

As we continue to learn of Christ through the scriptures and life experiences our souls are strengthened. Our hearts tend to be opened and our desire to become more like Christ becomes stronger.

We feel the love that Christ has for us, which in return gives us a desire to love others.

One of the ways we can show love is by serving willingly. In order to do this we should pray earnestly and opportunities will be opened to us through the Spirit.

Our service should be selfless, quiet, full of love and our hearts should continually ponder on that without charity we ourselves have nothing.

Homemade Marshmallows

Homemade Marshmallows

.75-oz unflavored gelatin (3 envelopes of Knox gelatin)

1/2 cup cold water

2 cups granulated sugar

2/3 cups light corn syrup

1/4 cup water

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Line 9 x 9-inch pan with plastic wrap and lightly oil it. Set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer, sprinkle gelatin over 1/2 cup cold water. Soak for about 10 minutes. Meanwhile, combine sugar, corn syrup and 1/4 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a rapid boil and boil hard for 1 minute.Pour the boiling syrup into soaked gelatin and turn on the mixer, using the whisk attachment, to high speed. Add the salt and beat for 12 minutes. After 12 minutes, add in the vanilla extract beat to incorporate.Scrape marshmallow into the prepared pan and spread evenly (Lightly greasing your hands and the spatula helps a lot here). Take another piece of lightly oiled plastic wrap and press lightly on top of the marshmallow, creating a seal. Let mixture sit for a few hours, or overnight, until cooled and firmly set.In a shallow dish, combine equal parts cornstarch and confectioners’ sugar. Remove marshmallow from pan and cut into equal pieces with scissors (the best tool for the job) or a chef’s knife. Dredge each piece of marshmallow in confectioners’ sugar mixture.Store in an airtight container.
Thanks Brandi for sending us this recipe.
